Multi-Axis turning technology continues to advance. Previous advancements have been most profound and valuable in the technology of the application of live tooling, sub-spindle pick-off and machine accuracy. These benefits have been significant to all users of precision turned components. Recent advancements in control technology, full 5-axis milling capability and on-machine metrology bring further excitement to the field.

Omni's CNC, Multi-Axis lathe capability is anchored by its line of OKUMA MULTUS, EUROTECH and MORI machines, featuring Y-Axis, sub-spindle and live tooling. Multi-axis lathes can meet the demanding needs of most precision turning designs. Bar diameters of 0.250 inch (6.35MM) to 2.750 inch (70MM) diameter will accommodate those precision components larger in diameter than those able to be machined in the Swiss realm (over 1.250 inch (32MM)). These components often present shorter L:D ratios yet still may require very precise secondary features such as cross drilling, cross tapping, slotting, hex milling or thread milling on the sides or ends of the components.

Simultaneous control of up to 5-axis of machine movement allows
components to be finished without the need for secondary operations. Again,
this flexibility, as with Swiss technology, enables close tolerance, accurate
machining of complex features with complete control of both front end and
back end operations.

Omni has increased the effectiveness of these machines with integrated
high capacity and high pressure coolant systems. This technology provides excellent flushing
capability for through-the-tool coolant applications for drilling, boring
operations or deep drilling operations and for chip evacuation in the machining envelope. Automatic bar-loaders further complement our Large Turning department by increasing the production
efficiency and yield of precision components.
